Unfortunately, the Chadderton Historical Society is unable to carry out any family or genealogical research. Material from our archives on general aspects of Chadderton's history, including photographs, may be available to enquirers. A minimum fee of £10.00 is charged for any information that is provided.A number of our own publications are also available, and these are described on the Membership and Publications page.

(B) Oldham Local Studies Library and Archives Census Returns for Chadderton, from 1801 to 1901, are available on microfilm at the Local Studies Library in Oldham. These may be consulted free of charge but an appointment should be made in advance. The staff is most helpful to visitors but cannot undertake research work for enquirers.
Also available on microfilm are past copies of the 'Oldham Chronicle', 'Oldham Standard', and other local newspapers, which date back to the mid-19th century.
The Minute Books, and other records of the former Chadderton Urban District Council (1894-1974), are also deposited with the Local Studies Library, and may be consulted after prior notification.

There is no need to make an appointment for either original material or microfilm copies although at busy times viewer use may be restricted and there may be a waiting period.
Researchers will require a reader's ticket as the Record Office is a member of the County Archive Research Network (CARN). This can be obtained, free of charge, from any participating office on production of some official form of identification, which includes name, current address and signature (e.g. driving licence, utilities bill or bankers card). Tickets cannot be issued by post.
